Mother Bored?

Sorry that should read Motherboard! What is a motherboard? No, it is not a misspelling of a description of a mother wondering how she could be killing time and it is not free lodging at home after you leave school. Yet we have probably heard it mentioned in relation to computers but do we really know what it is and what it does? Well, according to Wikipedia,

“A motherboard (sometimes alternatively known as the main circuit board, system board, baseboard, planar board or logic board, or colloquially, a mobo) is the main printed circuit board (PCB) found in general purpose microcomputers and other expandable systems. It holds and allows communication between many of the crucial electronic components of a system, such as the central processing unit (CPU) and memory, and provides connectors for other peripherals. Unlike a backplane, a motherboard usually contains significant sub-systems such as the central processor, the chipset's input/output and memory controllers, interface connectors, and other components integrated for general purpose use and applications.”

If you do not know what the other components referred to above are, then I am sure Mr Google can help you.

The idea behind this particular blog comes from our Chairperson, as she kindly sent me an email suggesting that the following website about how a motherboard is made, may be of interest, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bR-DOeAm-PQ

It is certainly worth a watch but I am happy to accept that some clever people have designed and made the machine that this blog is being prepared on and I don’t have to worry about how it is made. Thanks again for the idea.
